Dr. Patrick Mularoni from All Children’s Hospital (ACH) stopped by Weiss Pediatric Care last week to talk about the new Sarasota based ACH AllSportsMedicine Clinic.  He spoke about the diverse services available for young athletes at the Clinic, and specifically about his passion for the diagnosis and management of concussion in kids.

With many school and community athletic programs already in full swing, we want to remind you to pay particular attention to head injuries.

The American Academy of Pediatrics  reports that while concussions are most common in collision sports such as football, they also occur in sports that don’t require helmets, such as soccer, basketball, and wrestling. Concussions can also occur outside of organized sports, for example, when a child riding a bike or skateboard falls downs and bumps his head on the street.

We know that proper diagnosis and treatment can prevent permanent consequences for academic and athletic success.  The video Return To Learning After Concussion provides critical information for parents, student athletes, and coaches.
