Major Recognition for a Sarasota Pediatrician
Sarasota, FL (January 25, 2016) – A Sarasota Pediatrician is making national headlines again. After garnering attention for outstanding contributions to the Florida Pediatric Medical Home Demonstration Project, Dr. Robert Weiss and his team are now being recognized for their efforts and quality of care by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the National Center for Medical Home Implementation. The award names Weiss Pediatric Care an Innovative and Promising Practice in Medical Home Implementation, and features the group prominently on a national website. Weiss Pediatric Care is one of only four practices in the nation to receive this honor.
The Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) is a new way of delivering care that includes team-based care that’s more accessible to patients than ever before. “It eliminates the typical fast-paced doctor visit, and allows us to take time with our patients and their families, get to know them, offer them health education, and look at the whole picture of each patient’s health,” says Weiss.
Emerging data around the PCMH point to better long term outcomes for children, reduced hospitalizations and emergency room visits, and over all higher patient satisfaction. That’s why Dr. Weiss and his wife Diane took on the PCMH model three years ago. Diane Weiss is a beloved parenting and child development specialist on the Suncoast who cofounded popular family center, Forty Carrots.
The couple is inspired by the legacy of Diane’s father, Dr. Norman Goldstein, a pioneer in pediatric care in Sarasota County. Beginning in the early 1960’s, Dr. Goldstein integrated a focus on behavior, development, and education into the more traditional medical model. “He always took the time to learn about the family and other issues that impact a child’s health. Every day we are reminded that to do otherwise, is to treat today’s symptoms without regard for future well-being,” says Diane.
